AMVCA 2026: 'My Father's Shadow' Wins Big at the 12th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards

The 12th Africa Magic Viewers' Choice Awards took place May 9 at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, and "My Father's Shadow" was the night's biggest winner — taking home five awards, including Best Movie and Best Director for Akinola Davies Jr.
"Colors of Fire" was the other standout of the night, picking up three awards including Best Costume Design and Best Lead Actor for Uzor Arukwe. Linda Ejiofor also made history with a Best Actress win for "The Serpent's Gift."
Hosted by Bovi and Nomzamo Mbatha, this year's ceremony leaned into craftsmanship as a central theme, with veteran actress Joke Silva serving as Head Judge across the 32 award categories. As one of African cinema's biggest nights, AMVCA continues to be a genuine barometer for where Nollywood's storytelling is heading next.
